Day 3

Well it's our 3rd and last full day at KL. Today we are planning to act like travellers instead of tourists. The last couple of days while we have been settling in we have ate in good restaurants and travelled by taxi everywhere.

Our first stop is The Batu Caves, we travel firstly by Mono Rail which is cheap, fast, clean, ac, and travels above the traffic jams below. Saying all that it still has a feeling of the Mickey Mouse ride at the Fairground, where you look like you are going to tip over the edge of the track as it goes around the bend. I asked Paddy to stand in the middle because I am sure we were leaning over a bit to much on our side. Next we get directions off a couple of people to get us to the bus. Everyone is happy and smiley and willing to help. The bus takes about 40mins where it is interesting people watching, taking in the shanty towns and especially watching the scooters which are in abundance and they weave in and out of the traffic MAD!!! ( much worse than Paddy and I )

The Batu Caves
The Batu Caves
is a Hindu Shrine with 3 main caves. There are 272 heart thumping steps to reach the caves. On our climb up there were loads of monkeys milling about, I wasn't overly keen on getting to close for a picture as their teeth looked like they could give you a nasty nip!

On our adventure home we experimented with food from the street market. I was pleasantly surprised with the first round weird fish in batter with a mix of nacho looking fishy tasting strips with a chilli sauce, ( Mc D's watch out ) lovely and for the grand price of 20p for a bag full. Next up from the Indian market another bag full of strange shaped and colourful bits. To Paddy's disappointment it was all vegetarian. Haha

Now our rucksacks are packed the fridge is empty.

Bring on the next destination. Thailand, Krabi tomorrow can't wait!

Day 1

Stansted to Kuala Lumper - 14 hour flight

We start our long trip with a delay the guy over the tannoy announces indefinite as there has been a crash on the motorway involving our catering team. I was a bit dissapointed but then thought about it. Firstly about the guys who may have been involved in the crash and the fact we have plenty of time on our hands.

As it happens we set off just 1 hour later than planned. The flight as expected was hard going. Trying to sleep to pass the time, no chance! When passing Romania it was rather a bumpy ride to say the least, heart in mouth. Having a tall companion made our seating arrangement cosy, if you know what I mean.

On arrival the heat hits you like an open oven door. We manage to get sorted with a taxi 40 min ride to bring us to the centre of KL. Our hotel lovely, clean, air con, with comfy bed. We explore Chinatown for supper bustling markets and lots of food stalls and restaurants. The food was amazing and the price insanely cheap.

A 14 hour sleep gets us
The Petronas Towers
back in the land of the living.

Today Sunday 8th August

We head off to see the Petronas tours, they are in sight from our hotel and I think it's a good idea to walk. Paddy's suggestion is a taxi. This is a suggestion for once that I wish I had listened too. 1 hour later we arrive at the towers. Well worth the long hot and sticky walk through grotty subways and rubble back lanes.

This afternoon a mooch around the Petronas shopping Mall. Lunch was a bit scary we ordered and hoped for the best my turned out to be Chicken soup, phew. Paddy's still not quite sure what he ate it looked like the shape of a frog to me. Ughhhh!
